Following their stage and ballet adaptation at the Yamaha Concert Hall in December 2018, Mental Eclipse Theater House brings two of their artists to perform Schubert’s Winterreise, in the more traditional, intimate Liederabend setting at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
Composed to two volumes of poems by Wilhelm Müller, Winterreise follows a wandering stranger on a journey to seek resolution amidst a bleak winter landscape. Victoria Choi, one of Oper in der Krypta’s leading pianists joins bass-baritone Jason Cloud on this trek through ice and snow.
“The songs felt eerily familiar to me, and have since moved me in a direction that ultimately changed my way of perceiving the world. Their tunes were hauntingly captivating, following me around like the crow itself. They would surprisingly come up on me in my times of solitude and eventually lead to my decision to interpret it. I devoted myself to learning the cycle inside and out,” says Cloud.
Winterreise will be presented in the Schubert Saal at the Wiener Konzerthaus on Saturday, September 28th 2019 at 19:30.
